TLA (Temporary Lodging Allowance) is a financial benefit for U.S. service members who are temporarily without permanent housing after arriving at or before departing from an overseas duty station. 

You may be eligible for TLA if you're on PCS orders and actively searching for off-base housing near your assigned location, such as Ramstein Air Base.

TLA typically covers up to 30 days of temporary lodging after arrival at your new duty station in Ramstein Air Base, while you search for off-base housing.

Additionally, up to 10 days of TLA may be authorized before departure from your previous location during your PCS.

During your PCS to Germany, you may receive TLA (Temporary Lodging Allowance) upon arrival and OHA (Overseas Housing Allowance) once you secure permanent off-base housing.
Some service members may also qualify for COLA (Cost of Living Allowance) and DLA (Dislocation Allowance) to help cover relocation costs.

TDY (Temporary Duty) is a short-term assignment away from your permanent duty station, typically lasting days to a few months.

PCS (Permanent Change of Station) means a long-term or permanent relocation to a new base like Ramstein Air Base and usually includes housing and relocation allowances such as TLA and OHA.

During a TDY (Temporary Duty) assignment in Germany, U.S. military personnel may receive several allowances:

• Per Diem to cover meals and incidental expenses

• TDY Lodging Allowance for approved hotel or apartment accommodations

• Transportation Reimbursement for flights, rental cars, or public transit

• COLA (Cost of Living Allowance) depending on your TDY location in Germany

To get a USAREUR driver’s license, you must complete an online driver’s training and pass the USAREUR written test on JKO.
After passing, bring your certificate, ID and orders to your local Driver Testing & Training Station at Ramstein Air Base.
